Government has urged senior security officials to be exemplary to their juniors by shunning indiscipline and corruption.
Speaking at a rank conferment ceremony in Harare recently, Commissioner-General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Cde Paradzayi Willings Zimondi, said discipline was paramount to the force.
“It is only good leaders who can be emulated and therefore you must try to lead by example and ensure that there is zero tolerance to indiscipline and corruption in whatever form, size or angle.
“A well-disciplined force is always set to achieve its set goals and objectives. Accordingly, there is a call for you to be exemplary so that those under your command learn from you.”
The promotions, granted by President Mugabe in terms of section 9(1) (b) of the Prisons Act Chapter 7:11, saw eleven senior officers elevated. Former Senior Assistant Commissioner Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu was promoted to deputy commissioner-general.
Comm-General Zimondi is now being deputised by four deputy commissioners-general namely Fadzayi Mupure, Rhodes Moyo, Agrey Huggins Machingauta and Chihobvu.
Six Senior Assistant Commissioners Albert Mandimika, Luke Zondai Makuvire, Charity Gezi, Masimba Wonder Chisora, Jesika Moyo and Stanely Matunhira were elevated to the ranks of commissioners. Of the eleven, two were females whom General Zimondi applauded as he challenged other female officers to follow their example.
“It is my hope that this promotion will encourage and motivate other female officers to continue to carry out their duties diligently for them to be considered on future promotions and elevations to such senior ranks in the service,” he said.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs secretary Mrs Virginia Mabiza last August called for the imprisonment of officials from her ministry and ZPCS who had allegedly misappropriated funds.
The funds, which exceeded US$7 000, were specifically meant for the day-to-day running of the service, including food purchases for prison inmates, fuel, water and electricity bills.
