Happy weekend!!!
I am, are the most two powerful words, for what you put after them shapes you.
Last week article about whether ladies’ shoes should match their handbags was received with mixed feelings as some ladies concurring to the idea of not being too “matchy, matchy” but making the two compliment each, while others said they have to be identical in both material and patterns.
The stickiest point from most women was that matching the handbag and the shoes always is an expensive lifestyle and most women buy handbags for functionality not for style.
The conclusion is that people are different from taste to style.
United Kingdom based Zimbabwean pharmacist, businesswoman and life coach, Shingi Fundira said, what is important in dressing up is to look the part and stand out.
“You have to look elegant and classy however taking notice of your shoes and handbag is of vital importance because those two draw the most attention.”
There are so many “budget friendly” ways of making your outfit stand out and above all making you look elegant, classy and “take me serious,” she said.
The shoes and the handbag are some of the most important pieces on a lady’s outfit and some ladies felt pressured to have the best but how then can one look the “chic” part without breaking the bank? Here are quick guidance for ladies to look the best without spending much:
Walking with confidence
This is very important and does not cost a dime but will elevate everything about your appearance.
Everything else on a lady is secondary, what comes first is confidence.
Lipstick and nails
Apart from the walk, nothing else shows confidence in a woman than the lipstick she wears. Most men don’t really know the difference between a classic, liquid or matte lipstick but one thing we do know is the colours and how they communicate to us.
I asked Magdalene Lafontant of Nakai Skincare and Cosmetics based in Canada, what lipstick really mean to women and she said, “Lipsticks bring confidence to a woman, no doubt, it makes one feel sexy and above all it completes the look. Have you noticed how a red lipstick speaks power and confidence?
Manicured hands with polished nails makes all the difference.
Nail polish is something that can be changed every so often depending on what one feels like wearing on that particular day however doing your nails brings out the elegancy in a woman effortlessly.
Wearing nude colours
In the fashion world, nude colours are quite Eurocentric and based on the European standard of skin tones, however the colours themselves on clothes and shoes have a way of making one look chic or posh.
The four main nude colours that can transform a lady in an instant is tan, white, brown and cream. The fabrics on these colours look expensive compared to other colours like red or blue.
Just because you can easily see when they get dirty is what makes you look expensive and portray a “take me serious look.” Nude colours are not loud but they make the phrase “less is more” true.
Jewellery and sunglasses
The main purpose of wearing jewellery is nothing other than looking elegant but be heavily adorned in silver and gold pieces from top to bottom like a Christmas tree has the opposite effect. Wearing pearls or a neckless is a must with either one or two rings, one on each hand including a wedding ring if any, then earrings that are subtle like clips, studs or pearls to balance them with the neckless.
If you decide on wearing a brochure on your suit jacket or coat then the neckless has to be inside, only being reviewed on the neckline and the earrings should not be dangling.
For an open arm or strapless dress like the one Star FM presenter KVG was wearing at the recently held awards, the dress needed a bigger neck piece to balance of the flared dress and pendant or dangling earrings would do justice to the whole look like how Beyonce pulled the look at the Grammy Awards.
When the weather is right, bright and sunny, a pair of sunglasses will make you look posh regardless of them being designers or not.
We always think people who throw some money on accessories like sunglasses not because of fashion but for the sole person of blocking the sun are elegant so sunglasses are a must have accessory but never to be worn indoors unless you were crying or anything justifiable like being high.
As a bonus, pointed toe heels, pumps without a shadow of doubt are perceived to be expensive obviously because they have been heavily marketed by exclusive brands like Louboutin, Michael Kors and Gucci.
Wearing pointed four or six inch pumps in nude colours is chic especially if they feel comfortable. It’s always advisable to spend more on good quality shoes because the way you walk in them can kick you off balance and the whole outfit will look tacky.
