NINETY-SEVEN members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) graduated yesterday at 2 Presidential Guard after completing a 14-week long General Squad Drill and Small Arms course. Commander Mechanised Brigade Brigadier-General Steven Gwekwerere, who presided over the ceremony, urged the graduates to be vigilant.
He said 100 students initially enrolled for the course, but three dropped out due to various reasons.
“Your course commenced on 14 September 2018, some 14 weeks ago with a capacity of 100 students under the instruction of qualified course officers and instructors.
“I am told that 97 students are graduating today, of which 13 are members of the Zimbabwe Women Services (ZWS) who stood shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts through the duration of the course. Two students dropped out due to indiscipline and sadly one student was murdered,” he said.
Brig-General Gwekwerere said the objective of the course was to enable efficient drills during battle.
“To achieve this, you were taught foot and arm drills, with a compliment of small arms and military civic education.
“As you are aware that military training is not easy, as you were subjected to some gruesome and rigorous training exercise, as such some of you were bruised along way.
“It is through discipline, loyalty, dedication, physical and mentally stamina that enabled you to finish this mentally and physically demanding course.,” said Brig-General Gwekwerere.
