The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs, Cde Abedinico Ncube has urged Zanu-PF members to shun factionalism and rally behind President Mugabe.
Addressing party members at a Gwanda inter-district meeting yesterday, Cde Ncube said people should be wary of divisive elements within the party who were promoting factionalism, bringing confusion.
“My appeal is that we should all remain united as Gwanda leaders. Unity is very important in consolidating our party. We all agreed that our candidate is President Mugabe and no one else.
“President Mugabe is a true revolutionary leader and is God given. He is a unifier and always stands for the truth,” he said.
Cde Ncube who is also a Zanu-PF politburo member urged party members in the district to avoid gossiping and rumour mongering. He said members should concentrate on building the revolutionary party to ensure that it remains on top of opposition parties.
“We need to take our party to greater heights and that is only possible if we remain united. Let us not listen to gossip which creates confusion among us,” he said.
Cde Ncube’s sentiments come at a time when factionalism has taken centre stage in Zanu-PF structures.
Vice-President Joice Mujuru has been fingered as the chief-architect of the divisions and leader of one of the factions.
Cde Ncube said party members should continue supporting President Mugabe as he had immensely changed the face of Gwanda.
“Here in Gwanda district there is a lot of development that has taken place because of the President’s policies. We now have new clinics, boreholes, science laboratories at schools and irrigation schemes resuscitated as a result of the indigenisation policy. There are still more development projects coming up and we are grateful to the President,” he said.
Matabeleland South recently endorsed Zanu-PF First Secretary, President Mugabe as the party’s sole candidate and the First Lady, Cde Grace Mugabe as the leader of the Women’s League.
“We also thank you for supporting the First Lady Cde Mugabe,” said Cde Ncube.
Leadership in the district expressed gratitude to the unity demonstrated by party members ahead of the party’s elective congress.
“We are happy to say that in our district we have not received any negative report because we respect our leadership,” said the provincial treasurer, Cde Edison Gumbo.
The inter-district meeting also discussed preparations for the party’s elective Congress set for next month.
Party members were urged to contribute money for the congress as each province has been asked to raise $150,000. Gwanda district is expected to raise $21,400.
Cde Gumbo said accreditation of delegates to attend the congress is expected to be done by November 21.
He also urged party members to take new electronic cards.
