It clarified that they are installing prepaid meters for free to empower customers to manage their own consumption.
“ZETDC would like to clarify that prepaid meters are being installed free of charge at no cost . . .,” said ZETDC in a statement.
This clarification comes after ZETDC was flooded with calls from its customers who had been approached by agents who claimed they installed prepaid meters.
“ZETDC has been inundated with calls from customers who have been approached by some unscrupulous elements, masquerading as agents of the power utility with the intention of selling them prepaid meters,” said ZETDC in a disclaimer statement.
ZETDC also urged its customers to report to the police or to any ZETDC office if they are approached by the fake agents.
Zesa Holdings has installed 183 000 prepaid meters countrywide since August last year.
