that were released after the final round of the Continental Cup qualifiers held in Morocco.
The Continental Cup will be held next year and the two top teams from the event will automatically qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Zimbabwe, who were ranked number 21 in the men’s category, dropped into 24th place. The women’s team also dropped two places down the ladder from number 17 to 19.
Njerere blamed the fall on their failure to compete in Morocco two weeks ago. Beach volleyball was introduced in Zimbabwe early this year and the teams were seemingly doing quite well.
“We are disappointed with the rankings because if we had managed to participate in Morocco we would have improved our rankings.
“Now we have to work hard to improve our position.
“The advantage of being ranked is that when you take part in other tournaments you will not play in the early stages of qualifiers,” said Njerere.
Njerere, however, said Zimbabwe stands a chance to be counted among the best beach volleyball playing countries if they get enough resources considering the pace at which the game has been developing since its introduction in the country.
“I think it’s good because we started playing beach volleyball this year, it’s positive,”said Njerere.
