A 36-YEAR-OLD Matobo man will rot in jail for 15 years after a Gwanda Magistrate’s court slapped him with a heavy sentence for the brutal rape of a 13-year-old girl last month.
The vile predator stalked his young victim, chasing her down on his bicycle as she walked home from a friend’s house where she’d been doing homework. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed the horrific attack occurred on 8 June around 3 PM.
According to the NPAZ, “The victim went to a friend’s homestead to do some homework and whilst on her way back home, she met the offender who started chasing her with a bicycle until he caught up with her.”
The twisted fiend then pounced, pushing the terrified girl to the ground. “She screamed for help and the offender produced a knife threatening to kill her,” the NPAZ said. He then savagely raped the minor before fleeing the scene on his bicycle, leaving the traumatised girl to pick herself up.
Brave beyond her years, the victim immediately reported the terrifying ordeal to her parents, who wasted no time in alerting the police. Their swift action led to the pervert’s arrest.
The NPAZ emphasized the critical need for child protection: “This case highlights the importance of creating safe spaces for children to speak and ensuring that they are protected especially within homes and communities. Justice begins with listening and acting. Let’s break the silence and stand up for the safety and dignity of every child.”
