A TEACHER from Gwayi who turned a discipline session into a full-blown assault has been slapped with a jail term after she bashed a 15-year-old pupil in front of classmates.

Shyleen Nenduva (27), who was employed at a primary school in Gwayi, appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges stemming from a violent incident that occurred on 9 July 2025.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the teacher went berserk after the boy was caught misbehaving outside class.
“A misunderstanding then ensued between the victim and the offender. The offender assaulted the victim by hitting him several times with a wooden stick on the back, once with a fist on the chest and pushing him onto a desk, causing him to land on the ground,” read the statement.

The brutal classroom beatdown left the Grade 7 learner with a swollen and painful right elbow, triggering a police report and subsequent court action.

Nenduva was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, of which six months were suspended for five years. The remaining nine months were suspended on the condition that she performs 315 hours of community service.
