REIGNING Miss Global Zimbabwe, Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo, says wearing her sash for the first time was a special moment that made her realise how far she has come.
Nkomo said the sash carries the hopes and dreams of the people she now represents as she competes at Miss Global 2026 in Thailand.
A Zimbabwean representative is featuring at the Miss Global stage for the first time since Kudzai Matizha represented the country in 2023.
The 23-year old Nkomo said the sash represents more than just winning a beauty title.
“The sash is finally on. A moment I’ve dreamed about, prayed for, and worked tirelessly towards.
“Standing here as Miss Global Zimbabwe 2026, I carry more than a title I carry the stories, hopes and dreams of a nation.”
Nkomo is now focused on representing Zimbabwe on the international stage while using her platform to speak about issues close to her heart.
Through her GreenMinds initiative, she has been working to link environmental awareness with mental well-being. The initiative creates spaces where young people can express themselves, feel valued and understand the importance of taking care of their surroundings. Nkomo believes her journey is about more than competing for a crown. She wants to use the platform to inspire young people and show that beauty queens can also use their voices to create awareness and make a difference in their communities.
“I understand the responsibility that comes with the title. It’s been a while since Zimbabwe was represented on the Miss Global stage, so I know I have a lot of work to do to help bring Zimbabwe back in a meaningful way,” she said.
Nkomo enjoyed a successful run in pageantry last year after being crowned Miss Tourism Zimbabwe and Miss NUST. The Miss Global competition started on September 29 and is set end on October 12, where Nkomo is competing alongside contestants from around the world. Her previous international experience in Malaysia gave her exposure to global cultures and sharpened her confidence under pressure. She has described that experience as life-changing and motivating for her continued growth.
