THE Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe (HPA) in collaboration with law enforcement agencies have embarked on an operation to close down beauty and wellness facilities that are illegally offering beauty enhancements and skin treatment services.

In a statement, HPA said Individuals that are responsible for these acts will equally face the full wrath of the law.

“HPA has noted with concern that beauty and wellness facilities are offering beauty enhancements services and skin treatments using procedures that are beyond their scope of operation, such as intravenous drips and infusions,” said the HPA.

The authority said intravenous drips and injectables are being administered by non-medical professionals which poses a serious threat in the health sector reminding the perpetrators that the Health Professions Act (Chapter 27:19) Section 126 prohibits non-medical personnel from performing any act specially pertaining to a registered profession.

Mandated to safeguard the public, HPA urged the public to only seek medical advice and treatment from registered health professionals and institutions that are  identified by the possession of a valid practising certificate from the practitioner’s respective Council as well as an HPA license.

“Currently, in conjunction with the police, HPA is closing facilities where non- medical personnel are carrying out procedures meant to be done by registered medical professionals while the responsible individuals are facing the full wrath of the law,” warned the authority.
