Popular socialite and comedian Madam Boss, born Tyra Cleopatra Chikocho, has announced that her long-awaited movie, Becoming Madam Boss, is finally ready for the big screen, with its official premiere set for May 30 in Harare.
The production will debut at a glamorous red carpet event before embarking on an international tour that will include screenings in Bulawayo, Johannesburg, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Australia.
Excitement around the film has already begun to build following the unveiling of the official movie trailer.
In a historic milestone for local film, the poster was displayed on the giant digital billboard atop Joina City in Harare, becoming the first Zimbabwean movie to be promoted on the prominent advertising platform.
The movie is inspired by Madam Boss’ real-life story, tracing her rise from working as a housemaid to becoming one of Zimbabwe’s most influential entertainers and entrepreneurs. The production, written and directed by Sydney Tavavashe, features Leroy Gopal, Caroline Mashingaidze, Nash Mphepo, Shaun Mundawarara, Conrad Mwanawashe, and Shona Shonhai.
Madam Boss’s manager, Fanuel Masunungure, said the project represents years of hard work and growth for the brand.
“The movie is being released in May, and we’ll begin the world tour from Harare before heading to Masvingo, Bulawayo, Johannesburg, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Australia,” he said.
Masunungure revealed that the production was made possible through partnerships with several organisations, including Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and Joina City, which assisted during filming and promotional stages.
Madam Boss’ husband and co-manager, Ngoni Munetsiwa, reflected on the entertainer’s journey from creating short comedy skits in 2016 to becoming one of Zimbabwe’s biggest digital personalities.
“The journey started with simple skits, and we never imagined it would grow into such a huge brand,” he said.
He added that the Madam Boss brand has since collaborated with several companies, both locally and internationally, and has also secured ambassadorial roles for major brands.
“Madam Boss is now international, and I’m proud to be both her manager and husband,” said Munetsiwa.
Beyond comedy, Madam Boss has built a powerful online presence with millions of followers across social media platforms.
Her relatable humour and storytelling have earned her admiration across Africa and beyond, while her personal story continues to inspire young people, particularly women, to pursue their dreams regardless of their background.
“I started from nothing, and I always remind people that your background does not define your future,” she has said in previous interviews.
Her influence has also extended onto the global stage. In 2021, she won the African Social Star award at the 2021 E! People’s Choice Awards, defeating top African influencers, including Boity Thulo and Falz.
She also attracted international attention when she attended the BET Awards in the United States, a moment many Zimbabweans celebrated as recognition of local talent on the world entertainment scene.
