A BEER binge at a business centre in Chimanimani ended tragically on Monday after a 27-year-old man was fatally assaulted for unknown reasons by his colleague.

Daniel Sofa sustained serious injuries all over the body after he was heavily assaulted by Nelson Njuwaga.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident which happened in Wedi Compound in Chief Mutema’s area.

“Daniel and Nelson went to Wedi Compound where they started drinking beer. An altercation over an unknown issue ensued and they started fighting. Nelson started assaulting Daniel with fists and kicked him all over the body. He sustained serious injuries before becoming unconscious.

“Sensing danger, Nelson vanished from the scene before he returned 30 minutes later to check on his colleague. Efforts to resuscitate Daniel by pouring some water on him proved fruitless as he had already died. Nelson was arrested and is assisting police with investigations,” he said.

Ass Insp Chinyoka urged members of the public to solve disputes amicably than resorting to violence that may lead to unnecessary loss of lives.
