BEER BRAWL TURNS FATAL! Man dies after savage beating over ‘theft attempt’

A NIGHT of boozing turned bloody in Lower Gweru when two brothers and their friend allegedly beat a man to death, accusing him of trying to steal from a tuckshop.

The victim, Naison Ntini (34) of Mugwagwa Village under Chief Sogwala, was later found dead just 200 metres from the scene of the brutal attack.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, saying one suspect is in custody while two others are on the run.
“We have arrested a 38-year-old man for murder. His two accomplices are still being hunted,” said Insp Mahoko.

The suspects, Alfred Mutombeni (38), his brother Isheunesu from Village Matambo under Chief Bunina, and a third man Mduduzi Dzikamai, were reportedly drinking with Ntini at Ngxongxo Tuckshop on the night of July 30.

Trouble started when Ntini allegedly went behind the counter, prompting the trio to accuse him of trying to steal.
“They took turns assaulting him with open hands and switches,” said Insp Mahoko. “Ntini escaped and fled the scene, only to be found dead the next morning.”

Police recovered Ntini’s body in an open space not far from the tuckshop.

Only Alfred Mutombeni has been arrested so far. Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of Isheunesu Mutombeni and Mduduzi Dzikamai, who are still on the run.
