A NIGHT of drinking and laughter at a Gokwe business centre detriorated into a blood-soaked horror show when a drunk man fatally stabbed a fellow revellers.
Lloyd Makanje (21) from Mashame Business Centre in Gokwe North has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of murdering 44-year-old Shingirirai Shava in cold blood.
The shocking incident happened on 10 July 2025. Makanje and Shava were socialising with friends at a local shed. The light-hearted drinking scene spiralled out of control after a heated exchange.
“Makanje fatally stabbed the now deceased on the neck during a confrontation at a local shed while socializing with friends,” read a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
After being stabbed, Shava staggered away in a desperate attempt to save his life but collapsed and died just 20 metres from the scene.
Villagers, enraged by the senseless act, chased down and apprehended Makanje before handing him over to the police.
The blood-stained okapi knife used in the attack was recovered at the scene.
A post-mortem conducted later confirmed that Shava died from acute cardiac failure, haemorrhagic shock, and haemothorax — injuries consistent with a deep stab wound to the neck.
The High Court, sitting in Gokwe, showed no mercy, handing Makanje a 30-year jail term for the brutal killing.
The NPAZ called for tighter controls on alcohol-fuelled gatherings that often end in bloodshed.
