Beitbridge engages investors over stands

The Municipality of Beitbridge has started engaging investors and businesses who have failed to develop prime land allocated over a decade ago.

The town has been growing tremendously over the last decade due to the construction of houses and other amenities under the Government’s Beitbridge Redevelopment Programme (BRP).

Town clerk Mr Loud Ramakgapola said there are over 40 stands within the CBD that were allocated to investors with a few having been developed.

“My estimate is that we have at least 40 stands around the CBD and only 10 are under construction,” he said.

“We have investors/ companies who were given stands more than 10 years ago and have not submitted their plans for those stands. As a result our CBD is not growing. We are now a municipality and our infrastructure should show that.”

He said that they had reached out to the investors via a public notice and would soon be writing to them individually.
