Beitbridge Municipality has so far received $26 million to repair and upgrade roads under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).

Under the road rehabilitation programme, the local authority will work on some roads while the other roads will be rehabilitated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.

The local authority was this year allocated $57, 2 million under the ERRP and has so far received $26 million.

This year alone, Government put together a budget of $33billion for the ERRP second phase.

The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) has already disbursed more than $3billion to various local authorities for road works.

Under the ERRP2, Government is targeting to rehabilitate 10 000km of roads countrywide.

Beitbridge town clerk, Mr Loud Ramakgapola, said road rehabilitation work was in progress in the border town.

The development comes a few weeks after Government started upgrading a stretch of the Beitbridge to Bulawayo road starting at the border post entrance.–@tupeyo
