Business continued as usual in Beitbridge on Friday, with residents and traders ignoring calls for a national shutdown.
Cross – border trade, the economic lifeblood of the border town, proceeded uninterrupted as vendors, transport operators and businesses maintained normal operations.
At the busy Speed Market in Tshitaudze suburb, trading continued as normal. Similar scenes were observed at the Beitbridge Border Post, the central business district and the Dulivhadzimu bus terminus, where commuter traffic remained steady.
Business activity was also unaffected at Mashakada, Ha Mbedzi, Ha Mangavha and Ha Mudau business centres, with shops open and public transport operating as usual.
Residents said they could not afford to stay away from work, noting that their livelihoods depend largely on cross-border trade and daily business activities.
