Police have arrested one of the two Beitbridge men who recently stole two cars worth a total of US$45 950 from a Harare man after pretending to hire the vehicles.

Dickson Ndawana (42) was arrested on Monday, but his accomplice Mlungisi Ndlovu is on the run.

The two pretended to hire a South Africa-registered Toyota Fortuner and a South African-registered Toyota Hilux for use and later sold the cars once they took possession of the vehicles.

Ndawana was not asked to plead to a charge of theft of two cars when he briefly appeared before Beitbridge regional magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa.

He was remanded in custody to September 17 while police detectives pursue Ndlovu.

Prosecuting, Mr Willbrought Muleya said on May 19, the two men misrepresented to the complainant that they wanted to hire the two vehicles to carry some goods at Manyame Air Base in Harare.

After the complainant released the two cars for hire, the two sold them and disappeared.

The matter was reported to the police, leading Ndawana’s arrest on Monday in the border town.
