It’s a dream come true! Beitbridge-bred model Chris Ncube (19) who is the reigning Mr World Zimbabwe, is over the moon as he is set to represent the nation at the Man of the Globe International Pageant in Manilla, Philippines.
The pageant established in 2017, emphasises the importance of education and career development among young men. It is organised by the Prime Event Productions Philippines Foundation which also organises the annual Mister of Filipinas pageant.
Ncube, a former member of the Zimbabwe Junior Parliament said his trip was made possible by a number of young businessmen and women from the country who came to aid him to realise his long-held dream of conquering the world through modelling.
He said he saw the advert of the pageant on social media and shot his shot to be part of the contestants.
“I’m scheduled to leave for Manila on Wednesday for the pageant taking place next weekend. I came across the international pageant on social media and as I was going through this year’s contestants’ list, I realised that no one was representing Zimbabwe. I thought to myself I could be capable of representing my country at this competition,” said the teen model.
He said his trip was made possible by a number of great individuals who sponsored him.
Modelling is female dominated and most young men are shy to follow their dream and pursue a career in modelling as some assume that it is “unmanly” to be a runway model.
Ncube, however, encouraged aspiring male models to defy the odds and answer their calling.
“Pageantry is well known mostly on the female end of this dynamic industry and most men are shy in answering their modelling calls. On participating in the pageant, I just thought this might open opportunities for the Zimbabwean boy child and also inspire others.
“I encourage young men to follow their dreams. Time does not wait for anyone and the advice I have for people of my age is to do something they love and enjoy as time is ticking.
“To secure a comfortable future, you need to do something today that you enjoy, be it in school, training centres and sports, or anything that gets one closer to the tomorrow they envision,” he said.
Ncube is a former Falcon College student who completed his studies last year. He has been offered a place to study law at the University of Chichester in the United Kingdom.
