The Municipality of Beitbridge has officially terminated its contract with Kingdom Lifestyle over the development of the Matibe suburb, also known as Eastlea.
This low-density housing scheme has taken longer than necessary to complete.
In a recent public notice, Notice 38/2026, the local authority informed all beneficiaries of Eastlea stands that it had cancelled the agreement with Kingdom Lifestyle with immediate effect due to failure to deliver services within the agreed timelines.
“Following this contract termination, all beneficiaries are advised that any outstanding or ongoing payments for Eastlea stands must be made directly to the Beitbridge Municipality,” reads part of the notice.
The municipality further warned that no further payments should be remitted to Kingdom Lifestyle, adding that it will not accept liability for funds paid to the developer after the notice.
Beneficiaries have been urged to visit the Municipal Finance Offices with proof of identity and previous payment receipts to reconcile their accounts and update records.
The termination comes amid growing concern over delays in servicing stands across Beitbridge.
A few years ago, the local authority entered into partnerships with several land developers to service over 3,000 housing stands in phases in a bid to address the ballooning housing backlog in the border town.
The stands were sold out for between US$5500 and US$6500 to residents by several land developers in the past seven years.
However, council officials say some developers are yet to meet their obligations in terms of sewer and water reticulation services, leaving hundreds of beneficiaries with serviced housing stands despite having paid.
The municipality said it remains committed to ensuring that residents get serviced stands and that all future payments will now be channelled through council to guarantee accountability and faster service delivery.
