The Municipality of Beitbridge has issued a stern warning that it will commence full implementation and enforcement of municipal by-laws from October 9 in line with the Government’s National Clean-Up, Restoration, Order and Safety Programme aimed at restoring sanity in urban settlements.
In Public Notice Number 42 of 2026, on Monday, the Local Authority said municipal officers will be deployed around the town to check compliance, targeting illegal commercial activities, illegal markets and vending, illegal developments and general abatement of premises.
The Municipality said illegal activities, including welding in residential areas, brick moulding under power lines, tombstone selling in undesignated areas, tuckshops, gas vending, illegal restaurants and kitchens, upholstery, tinsmith, river sand poaching and illegal stone quarrying, will not be allowed.
“All vendors and informal traders operating in undesignated areas, including the border area, Central Business District, Khwalu 1 and 2, Tshiṱaudze Business Centres, Madinginye, Mabidi, Siyoka, Tshidixwa, along the Beitbridge-Masvingo and Beitbridge-Bulawayo highways, Dulivhadzimu, Vhembe View, Limpopo View and Milayo Industrial area, are ordered to cease operations by October 9, demolish illegal structures and reclaim sites to their original state,” said the Municipality in the notice.
“Property owners are ordered to refurbish premises by repairing cracked walls, ceilings, roofs, broken windows and doors, redecorating and trimming vegetation, while commuter operators who find parking or loading in undesignated areas will face fines.”
The local authority also said unsafe structures will be condemned or demolished, and unauthorized containers, church sheds, and buildings on open spaces and servitudes will be removed.
It also said public drinking, noise from musical shows without soundproofing, illegal dumping of refuse, and illegal schools operating in residential areas will attract penalties.
“Those who would like to be allocated the operating spaces in designated areas are encouraged to visit the Municipality of Beitbridge offices during office hours for registration and consideration for allocation of the operating spaces,” said the Local Authority.
“Failure to comply with this directive within the prescribed period will leave the Municipality of Beitbridge with no other option except to enforce and charge you restoration fees for any illegal development.”
