ZIMBABWEAN amateur golfer Ben Follet-Smith got his season off to a promising start after managing his best ever finish for the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate played out on Tuesday at the par-71 Hattiesburg Country Club.
Follet-Smith (68+72+71) finished tied for 12th position on the individual leaderboard after shooting third round at even par for his best finish as a Bulldog.
Senior Ben Wood paced MSU at nine-under-par-65 as he placed tied for fourth place after he recorded the lowest round of the entire tournament.
“Ben Wood did what he is capable of doing and had a great day, but it was a complete team effort,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. Rounding out the Bulldog trio in the Top 20 playing as an individual, Johnny Newnham shot a final round 69 to finish tied for 19th. Mississippi State Bulldogs turned in a stellar eight-under-par-276 to finish fourth at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
