In an interview yesterday, Mwaruwari said he was biding his time and taking a deserved rest to attend to family and business.
“I have not yet made my decision on where I will be playing next season. I have had my mind off football for a while concentrating on some family chores. I hope to make that decision soon,” said Mwaruwari at his Kyalami home in Midrand.
He dismissed as false rumours that Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were chasing after his signature but admitted to talking to Wits.
“About Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates I can safely say it’s just been speculation and nothing else. I have not spoken to any of their representatives.
“But I can confirm that I have been in touch with representatives of Wits. Chances are high that we might come to an agreement. I have had a look into their offer and I hope we can finalise soon, though there is still one or two things to look at as we proceed with the discussions,” said the former Manchester City striker.
He also dismissed rumours linking him to one of his former bosses Harry Redknapp at West Ham.
“I am humbled if it’s true that I am on their radar but as things stand, I have not heard from them as well.
“You know with football anything is possible, there has been a number of offers from as far afield as Asia and there was one from Iran but nothing has really come of it but I am positive my fans will know the position soon,” said Mwaruwari.
He said South Africa would be his ideal destination as it fell within plans of what he had already started.
“Naturally South Africa would be ideal for me as I have projects going on here and back home like the Benjani Mwaruwari Foundation, they all need attention. Being in South Africa is just as good as being at home for me. I would have a hands-on feel of things,” said Mwaruwari.
