A BEREAVED Beitbridge woman lost her Toyota Hilux GD6 double cab vehicle to three armed men who pounced on her, while she was processing burial documents for a deceased relative on Tuesday evening.

The gunmen also made away with a cell phone and R3 000.

Matabeleland South Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were underway.

“She said the robbery occurred around 8.30pm, when the complainant, accompanied by her two sisters, visited a local funeral parlour to notify them of a relative who had died.

“The complainant parked her vehicle outside a local funeral parlour and entered the offices, leaving her two sisters seated in the vehicle,” said Insp Dube.

“After about 20 minutes, the complainant got out of the funeral parlour and proceeded to where she had parked her vehicle.

“Upon arrival, before she could start the vehicle, three unknown male accused persons, who were all medium-built, approached her.

“One of the accused persons was wearing a purple shirt and a pair of black trousers. The other two accused persons were wearing dark clothes and they were not covering their faces,” she added.

Insp Dube reported that one of the accused, holding a black pistol and speaking in Sotho, aimed the firearm at the complainant, who was already in the driver’s seat, while demanding her car keys.

The suspect ordered the women to disembark from the vehicle as the other two remained near the driver’s door.

Fearing for their lives, the complainant and her sisters exited the vehicle, leaving the car keys and their belongings nside.

“The accused persons got into the complainant’s vehicle and drove off at a high speed to an unknown destination,” said Insp Dube.

Inside the motor vehicle was the complainant’s black handbag containing her driver’s licence, a valid Temporary Import Permit, the registration book of the stolen vehicle in the name of Rachel Inja, a South African, a Samsung S24 Ultra cell phone with an Econet line belonging to the complainant and R3 000 cash.

The matter was reported to the police that same evening.
