Multi-award-winning Afro-soul singer-songwriter Berita on Friday released her latest single, Namhlanje, a soulful and romantic offering that marks an evocative new chapter in her artistry
The single is streaming now on Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube, SoundCloud and Tidal and setting the tone for her highly anticipated headline show, “Echoes of the Soul,” on May 1 in South Africa.
“This song is a bridge to the ‘Echoes of the Soul’ experience at the John Kani Theatre. It’s about the anticipation of seeing the person you love. I wanted to share this music now so that by the time we gather at The Market Theatre in May, we are all breathing the same air and singing the same stories,” Berita said.
Over the past decade, Berita has become a defining voice in South African music.

Her accolades include the South African Music Award (SAMA) for Rest of Africa and the Metro FM Music Award for Best African Pop Album.
She rose to national prominence in 2012 with her debut single Thandolwethu, now considered a South African classic, and her debut album Conquering Spirit (2012) went Gold and hit number one on iTunes.
Berita has since released three acclaimed albums—Songs of Empowerment (2014), Berita (2017), and Songs in the Key of Love (2020), which produced the number one single Jikizinto and top ten hits Ndicel’ikiss and Siyathandana (featuring Amanda Black). Her career streams now exceed 16.4 million.

In 2018, she founded her independent label, Assali Music, reclaiming the master rights to her early work. Beyond music, she champions gender equity in the arts through The Women of Music Business (WOMB) initiative, mentoring 60 female artists across Africa. Her contributions earned her the Mosadi in Music in Africa Award at the 2023 Basadi Music Awards.
For the second edition of “Echoes of the Soul,” Berita will be backed by a nine-piece ensemble and a hand-picked lineup of guest artistes, promising an intimate and unforgettable Afro-soul experience.
