Berita to tweak her beat – no more love songs

Although she has made her name south of the Limpopo as the princess of the slow and sad ballads, Berita Khumalo is looking to release more upbeat music in the future as she wants to make an impact on dance floors.

True to tradition, the songstress has grabbed attention over the last few months with her collaboration with African music legends Oliver Mtukudzi and Hugh Masekela on the song Mwana WaMai, a solemn jam that infused Masekelaas skill on the trumpet and Mtukudzias guitar and vocal talents.

However, in a video interview with News24.com this week the golden voiced Bulawayo born beauty said that a conversation with Masekela had showed her the need for more energetic songs in her repertoire, a requirement she said she was ready to fulfill with her third album.

a?I was in conversation with Bra Hugh a few weeks back and he told me that he hopes for more rhythm in my songs now because I tend to do a lot of ballads. He said to me that we need more rhythm now because we have heard the ballads and now we want to dance,a? she said.

Berita added that the changes would come on her third album which she is already working on. She, however, said although she was changing, she would still keep some of the elements in her music that had seen her sing herself into the hearts of many across the continent.

a?It will take extra hard work, but there will be change. I will still keep some of the stuff that I have done, but I will still be looking to expand my genre and put out stuff that everybody can listen to,a? he said.

The songbird said that her change in style would also result in change in the calibre of artistes she worked with.

a?2016 is a big year in music for me. I will collaborate a lot with younger artistes because I have had my fair share of collaborations with legendary ones,a? she said.
