THE world must be alive to Western countries’ conspiracies and tricks that keep other nations in exploitative shackles, Iran’s Cultural Counsellor Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar said yesterday.
Speaking at a seminar in Harare yesterday commemorating the 34th anniversary of the demise of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini , Mr Bakhtiyar said the late leader had instilled a sense on non-dependence across the world.
“Today is the 34th anniversary of the death of Imam Khomeini. Imam Khomeini created a new issue in international equation.
“The movement of Imam Khomeini was actually to create a third line in the political, economic and social fields under the name of the Islamic Republic, which had no dependence on the East and West of the world,” he said.
Mr Bakhtiyar said Iran was determined to have constructive relations with all nations.
This resonates with President Mnangagwa’s mantra that says Zimbabwe is a “friend to all and enemy to none”.
“One of the policies of the Islamic Revolution is the lack of interference in the internal affairs of other countries and mutual respect, in a way that Imam Khomeini states: ‘The Islamic State wants to have an understanding and a proper relationship with all nations and all States, provided that they mutually respect the Islamic State’.
“Imam Khomeini considered the law in all matters and problems and believed that everyone should be in peace according to the law. In other words, non-aggression and the lack of expansionism were among his principles,” he said.
Mr Bakhtiyar said the revered leader was a staunch supporter of human rights and called out Western countries for their hand in violating these.
“These issues (non-dependence on the governments of the world) have created a point of hope in the hearts of the oppressed in the world and this hope continues.
“In one of the speeches, Imam Khomeini said: “The oppressed of the world must be awake and alert and not be fooled by these conspiracies and tricks and continue their activities on the way to freedom and getting out of colonial and exploitative shackles.”
“And let them know that with the slogan of supporting human rights, they are the biggest violators of human rights, and they never neglect to achieve their cruel goals and do not hesitate to commit any crime,” he said.
