Tapiwa Murwisi (32) a customer service agent with National Handling Services – a subsidiary of Air Zimbabwe – has since appeared in court charged with contravening Section 157 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
The act criminalises possession of dagga.
Murwisi appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Victoria Mashamba who remanded him in custody to today for bail ruling.
Prosecutor Ms Francisca Mukumbiri alleges that on July 25 this year at around 11am Murwisi was on duty at Harare International Airport.
It is alleged Murwisi was found carrying a black suitcase containing eight packs of compressed dagga blocks by his supervisor Beaular Kundishora.
The State says Murwisi intended to smuggle the dagga into an Air Zimbabwe Flight UM722 destined for London.
Murwisi was subsequently arrested and taken to Police CID Drugs at the Harare International Airport.
The dagga was weighed in Murwisi’s presence and recorded a total weight of 17,2kg with a street value of US$3 440.
