FUNERAL arrangements for R. Mashesha of South Africa’s kwaito group Big Nuz will be finalised today as Afrotainment and members of his family are scheduled to meet in Durban. R. Mashesha, real name, Sbusiso Khomo, died on Friday due to complications after being operated on at a hospital in Durban. He died a day before the launch of Big Nuz’s new album. DJ Tira announced the death of R. Mashesha, through his Twitter account. The album launch was shelved due to the Umlilo hit maker’s death.
Afrotainment artiste DJ Cndo, real name Sindisiwe Zungu said the family members would meet today with representatives of the record label that Mashesha was under, to finalise when the memorial service and funeral would be.
“By tomorrow (today) people will know where and when he’ll be buried.
“The reason for the delay in their meeting was because people have a busy weekend and the only time people were free was Monday,” said DJ Cndo.
She said the stable was still shocked at the death of Mashesha describing his passing on as a loss to South Africa’s entertainment industry.
“We’re still in a state of shock because of his death. His death has robbed us of a great musician for the stable and also South Africa’s music scene. We hope his legacy remains with us for a long time,” said DJ Cndo.
Big Nuz earlier this year visited Zimbabwe for two shows in Beitbridge and Bulawayo dubbed the Zerophobia Concert.
Mashesha did not perform but gathered enough strength to make the trip.
His death came hardly a month after the passing on of legendary Soul Brothers lead singer David Masondo.
