THE Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) has announced venues that will play host to their Champions League contest on Saturday and Sunday.
BPPA marketing and publicity officer Osborne-Wells Dziko said the four venues that will play host to the preliminary rounds of the games are Queens Sports Club, Golden Pillars, Fast Cash and Waverley.
He said Golden Pillars will play host to the final matches of a competition that will see each participating team pay a US$35 registration fee.
“We are glad to announce that four centres have agreed to host our champions contest. It’s going to be a two-day event that will end at Golden Pillars on Sunday,” said Dziko.
The playing format will be a 5×5 race to 13 knockout.
Dziko said the winners will go home withUS$300 and the first runners will pocket US$150.
The second runners up will go home with US$100 and fourth best team will receive US$50.
The draw of the competition will be held on Thursday at Golden Pillars.
BPPA teams that are going to take part are Palace, Entumbane, Nkulumane and Exchange.
Division One clubs that have confirmed participation are PS Classics, Khami, Caravan, Mnethi Gunners and Pamuzinda who are from the association’s Mzilikazi District.
From the Central Business District (CBD) there will be Delta Lagers Belmont, Expendables, Ekasi, Mpilo DQ and Mpumelelo.
BPPA cup holders Maqhageni will also feature.
After the BPPA Champions League competition, Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) board member marketing Archie Scholtz revealed that they are going to have a similar national tournament that will be played in Chinhoyi on February 24 and 25.
He said preparations for the two-day event are at an advanced stage.
“We are looking forward to having an exciting two-day tournament that will be played in Chinhoyi. Preparations are at an advanced stage as we seek to stage a tournament to remember,” said Scholtz. – @FungaiMuderere
