DYNAMOS are out to start the new season in the way they ended the last campaign − by winning a trophy at Rufaro.

The Glamour Boys won the Castle Cup in their final game of the season last year by beating Ngezi Platinum Stars in the final at Rufaro.

It meant that DeMbare completed a double over Ngezi Platinum Stars after having beaten the same side in the final of the same competition at Baobab in 2023.

Now, Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe and his men have the chance to win another silverware in the season-opening Castle Challenge Cup tomorrow.

They take on league champions Simba Bhora in a clash of two clubs who will be representing the country in the CAF inter-club tournaments.

But Chigowe knows that the main silverware, which his club’s fans really want, is the league championship.

He knows that he is the occupant of a seat where success is judged on winning the championship.

The bar was set by the likes of Sunday Chidzambwa, Kalisto Pasuwa and the late David Mandigora who kept alive the club’s legacy of being serial league championship winners.

DeMbare have not won the championship for 11 years now the longest barren run, without the grand prize since the club’s formation in 1963.

The Glamour Boys are not the only member of the traditional Big Three who have been battling, without success, to win the championship.

Highlanders have not won the championship for 19 years and, in the event that they don’t win it this year, they will celebrate their 100 years of existence next year, having gone two decades without being champions.

CAPS United were the last of the Big Three to be crowned champions but they haven’t won it in nine years.

Since the Green Machine were crowned in 2016, the best that the Big Three have done is having one of them finishing second in the championship race.

That was Dynamos in 2017.

The Glamour Boys are the best performing side, among the Big Three, in the eight seasons that have passed since one of them was crowned champions in 2016.

Dynamos have accumulated 309 points from the 2017 season to date.

CAPS United have accumulated 299 points, within that period, while Highlanders have accumulated 298 points.

DeMbare also have the best season during that period, after finishing second in 2017, while CAPS United’s best showing was finishing third in 2019 and Highlanders finished fifth in 2018.

Dynamos worst season, during that period, was in 2018 when they finished 11th while CAPS United also finished 11th in 2022 and Bosso finished seventh in 2019.
