Bikita teenager to be caned for rape

A Bikita teenager will receive five strokes of the cane after he was convicted of raping an eight year-old-girl in a maize field and threatening her with unspecified action if she reported. Masvingo regional magistrate Mr Dambudzo Malunga last week convicted the 15-year-old boy from Chief Mukanganwi’s area for forcing himself on the eight year-old girl who was guarding a maize field. The teen was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

Prosecutor Mrs Mukai Mutumhe told that court the teenager was herding cattle in his home area when he saw the victim guarding a maize field alone. He approached her before tripping her and raping her once.
Mrs Mutumhe said the rapist then threatened the victim with unspecified action and disappeared from the scene.
