Zanu PF’s solid membership should go out in large numbers and vote for the revolutionary party’s candidates in this weekend’s councils and National Assembly by-elections to ensure a resounding victory against the country’s fractured opposition, the ruling party’s National Political Commissar Dr Mike Bimha has said.
Addressing a press conference at a local hotel here today ahead of this weekend’s by elections, Dr Bimha also urged ruling party supporters to vote peacefully in line with President Mnangagwa’s call for peace before, during and after every polls.
Dr Bimha, who was flanked by the Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa and other top leaders in the province warned ruling party members against taking victory in this weekend’s by elections for granted.
”I want to call upon our party membership to go out in large numbers and vote for the ruling party in this weekend’s elections. I know some of our members will always say why should we bother going to vote when we have already won. I want to urge them not to take victory for granted. I also want to urge our members to vote peacefully and refrain from violence. Those who engage in violence will not be doing so at the instigation of the party and the police should do their job and arrest them. The President has already spoken on many occasions that we don’t condone violence,” he said.
He paid homage to the Presidium for leading from the front in campaigning for the revolutionary party ahead of this weekend’s by-elections.
He also spoke on other pending by-elections that will be held on February 3 next year saying the national party leadership led by Zanu PF national chair Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri will meet with party provincial leaders from all provinces where next year’s by-elections will be held to map the way forward.
