The people of Bindura in particular, and Mashonaland Central in general, should vote for the ruling Zanu PF for them to get good quality services, party’s Treasurer General Cde Patrick Chinamasa said yesterday.
He was addressing a rally at Chipadze High School grounds in Bindura, where he was representing ZANU PF national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
Cde Chinamasa said Zanu PF is a three-legged pot, representing President Mnangagwa, Member of Parliament and Councillor.
Breaking one of the legs means the pot cannot stand, he said.
“Today you came out in your numbers and Zanu PF is proud of this province because of your unwavering support. I was not expecting such a bumper crowd,” he said.
“I came here to ask you to vote for Zanu PF starting with our captain, President Mnangagwa, Bindura North Candidate Cde Kenneth Musanhi and our councillors.
“I advise you not to break one of the legs and expect the pot to stand. It only creates gaps that hinder development.”
Cde Chinamasa urged voters to vote for Zanu PF councillors in all the 12 urban wards and three rural.
He said victory was certain for Zanu PF as opposition councillors had done nothing in the last five years to deserve another chance.
“The opposition doesn’t have structures or a bank account but they want to lead this country. Vote wisely to improve your standards of living and propel national development.
“President Mnangagwa is a tried and tested leader who dedicated his life to the liberation and development of this country.
“We are going to win this election because good meat markets itself. The Second Republic’s work in the past five years is enough to deserve your vote,” said Cde Chinamasa.
Turning to the Kitsiyatota mining site, Cde Chinamasa said artisanal miners were affected and the issue was being rectified in an orderly manner.
He added that the title deeds programme would be extended to all cities and towns.
Zanu PF provincial chairperson Cde Kazembe Kazembe said the province was peaceful.
“The province is the best in supporting and voting for the revolutionary party. The council is marred by poor service delivery and their time is up,” he said.
“Plans are underway to set up gold milling plants at Mukaradzi and Kitsiyatota mining sites.”
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Monica Mavhunga said children were learning in a beerhall before the Second Republic came to the rescue of residents with devolution funds.
“Plans are underway to build more schools using devolution funds. Several clinics have been built in and around Bindura as well as waiting shelters for expecting mothers,” she said.
“Construction of Bindura Dam is progressing well while efforts are being made to draw water from Masembura Dam to ensure people have access to potable water.
“Cde Musanhi is drilling boreholes in Bindura to complement Government’s efforts. Pfumvudza/Intwasa was extended to peri-urban areas to ensure food security in urban centres.”
Cde Musanhi spearheaded the collection of refuse in and around Bindura since 2018, despite the opposition winning a majority of the wards. He said the local authority never functioned well.
“It is now time to change all the councillors and vote for Zanu PF candidates. Send them home because they are doing nothing. They are thieves,” he said.
“Zanu PF is a tried and tested party. Vote for its candidates and see wonders in Bindura.”
Ward 10 candidate Cde Michael Matangira said they started working on correcting the mistakes made by the opposition a long time ago.
“They never collected refuse, resulting in the mushrooming of dumpsites in residential areas. We started clearing the dumpsites and installing bins in public places.
“We started another operation of clearing the drainage system in town. We are promising that once voted into council, we will fix everything done wrongly by the opposition.
“This places too much work in our hands but we will not get tired until things are back to normal. Residents are struggling to get clean drinking water due to lack of care by the opposition.
“Water is our priority and we are not making empty promises because we are already doing the work and we are geared for it.”
Ward 12 candidate Cde Edward Nyekete said the Progress area in Chiwaridzo 2 was mostly affected by a lack of clean water and lack of refuse collection.
He said the opposition went into council expecting to get a salary, cell phones, laptops and taste hotel life, and they haven’t done anything to improve service delivery
“Zanu PF candidates are aware that this is not an executive job but a commitment to serve the community. We are using our resources to rescue residents from shoddy work by these councillors,” he said.
“We can afford to pay our own hotel bills because we are business people with interest in our wards, unlike the opposition candidates who have nothing to lose and go back to their homes in Harare, abandoning the electorate.”
