Bindura maintain pole position

VETERAN forward Daniel “Magrease” Kamunhenga continues to shine for Bindura United after scoring another priceless goal to help his team to maintain pole position in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league at the weekend.Bindura beat Lake Harvest 1-0 on Saturday at Chaminuka.

The Mashonaland Central side, who shot to the top of the table last week, got their goal just 29 minutes into the game to collect maximum points with Kamunhenga making all the difference.

The experienced striker, who has played for a number of Premiership teams including Monomotapa and Hwange, also scored for his side when they beat Starbill at Chipadze in their Week Nine game.

Bindura are now four points ahead of second placed Gunners who moved a place up the ladder after they dismissed Mushowani Stars 1-0 at Afdis.

Bindura United assistant coach, Zacks Kataya, said although they managed to get a positive result away from home, he feels his troops did not turn on their best performance.

“I think we did not play our usual game. At times we were panicking.

“Our plan is to just get maximum points in each and every game since we are new in the competition.

“We just treat each game as it comes,” said Kataya.

Bindura have just dropped three points out of the possible 30, which is impressive for a team that burst into the top Division this year.

While Bindura seems to be getting it right in the World Navi Northern Region Division One, it’s a different story for Mushowani United who suffered their second consecutive defeat after falling at the hands of Gunners.

The defeat was their first at home and it saw them dropping to fourth place from second position.

Mushowani are now five points behind the log leaders and for a team that went for eight weeks without losing a match, and were once leading the race, one begins to wonder if this is the beginning of their downfall.

They had came into this game hoping for a win with team captain, Zivanai Mhonda, confident they were going to bounce back from the surprise loss at Karoi United. Karoi were quickly brought down to earth as they lost 0-2 to Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera’s Flame Lily.

Saruchera had promised his side would recover after a goalless draw against ZRP Morris last week and Flame Lily delivered for their coach against a tricky opponent.

Dstv Rangers started life after coach Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe in impressive fashion as they beat Seven Flames 2-0 for their second win of the season.

Chiweshe was fired last week, just after his side had won their first match, with the former Dynamos coach saying Dstv Rangers had found their groove and was now expecting a good run of results. Chegutu Pirates also remembered how to win a game, powering to their first victory of the season, and the club’s leadership will feel they made the right decision to fire coach Tavaka Gumbo last week.
