Binga Pirates hunt for new leadership

IN a bid to ensure that their club adheres to international club licensing guidelines, Binga Pirates are in the hunt for administrators.

The Zifa southern Region Division One outfit recently announced that it was seeking to fill up six positions in its leadership structures.

Up for grabs are the positions of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, vice-secretary, treasurer and a committee member. This comes at a time when the incumbent executive leaders’ term has ended.

In a statement, Binga Pirates said: “The term of office of the current executive committee for Binga Pirates Football Club is reaching expiry.

“Therefore we are seeking for individuals who would want to fill the positions in the committee. All interested members are encouraged to apply stating their football administration qualifications and experience in detail.”

Binga Pirates were formed as Prisons Social Football Club in 2017 and named to Binga Pirates Football Club upon attaining the Division One league status so as to involve the community.

The club is community-funded and a number of Binga businesspeople have pledged to chip in with funds for travel costs and allowances for the players.

The Zifa Southern Region Division One League is made up of teams from Bulawayo and Matabeleland North provinces, meaning Binga Pirates need resources to travel for games in Hwange, Victoria Falls, Plumtree and the City of Kings.

No other team from Binga has ever played First Division football.

In 2017, little known Lunda FC qualified to play in the First Division but bailed out due to lack of sponsorship. Binga Pirates are breaking barriers and take the beautiful game to Binga District in Matabeleland North province. – @innocentskizoe
