THREE men residing in Binga who attempted to kill a shop owner were last Wednesday sentenced to six years in prison by a Hwange magistrate.
Regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira sentenced Gift Dube (38), Twalumba Mudenda (26) and Prince Dube (21) to six years each with two years conditionally suspended for five years.

The trio was found guilty of attempting to kill Quiet Ncube (28) on Christmas Day last year after he had denied them soft drinks on credit.
The State represented by prosecutor, Mr Thulani Ncube said on the day in question, at around 7pm, Mudenda and Prince approached Ncube at his shop and told him that they wanted to buy beer.
The two were informed that the shop did not sell beer and they then asked for soft drinks on credit which they were denied.
“Furiously, the accused persons went outside and joined forces with Gift who had remained outside in order to fight the shop owner. When the complainant left his shop to look for change, he was attacked by the trio.
“Gift threw a piece of brick at the complainant which hit him on his face causing him to fall. Gift proceeded to kneel on the complainant’s chest pressing him down while holding down both his arms,” said the prosecutor.
The complainant was stabbed on the left side of his ribs and once in the stomach by the other two. -@5_Shannico
