Mutoko Rural District Council chief executive officer, Mr Biriat Tasarira, will steer Chinhoyi Municipality after it emerged that he has been appointed substantive town clerk for the Mashonaland West capital.

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works confirmed the appointment in a communication issued during a Chinhoyi Municipality full council meeting held last week.

Mr Tasarira emerged as the preferred candidate to replace former Town Clerk Justice Maxwell Kaitano, who now serves as an Administrative Court judge.

Other candidates included the acting town clerk and town engineer, Simon Marara.

Engineer Marara has been holding the position in an acting capacity for one year.

Chinhoyi Residents Trust chairperson, Mr Tendayi Musonza, said the appointment of Mr Tasarira would help improve service delivery.

“We have received the news of a substantive town clerk with joy. We strongly feel this is good for service delivery, which has declined in recent months,” said Mr Musonza.
