Birth of first-born daughter inspires artiste

For any father, holding a child for the first time is a thrilling experience; the sensation is out of this world.

This unique emotion has inspired Elishama Mlathi, a budding musician from Bulawayo to take the stage and express himself via music.
The youthful vocalist who goes by the stage name Lish said that two years ago on December 13 was the finest day of his life as he welcomed his daughter Olwethuthando, something that inspired him to compose a song in her honour.

Despite the fact that the song was released in 2019, the multi-talented songwriter says he feels compelled to rewrite and sing it every year as a tribute in commemoration of his daughter.

“Two years ago when my wife gave birth to a bouncing baby girl I was very happy. The thought of being a father and knowing that you have brought a life into this world is a feeling I cannot describe. The feeling of holding your own child was too much for one man to shoulder so I decided to share my joy with the world through the song Olwethuthando which was named after my daughter.

“When I was composing the song, the pen was just flowing. It was me and my inner thoughts, that’s why people will find out that a lot of emotions are captured in the song,” Lish said.

Turning to his music career, the artiste said his desire to have his voice heard is the one that led him to pursue a career in music.

“I was drawn to professional music by a yearning to have my voice heard and my messages shared through song. I ventured into music professionally in 2012 when I was 20 years old.

“In 2013, I was infused into a group that was called TLB and from there, I joined another group called Focul X. A year later, I decided to go solo and have since released seven singles.”

He said he is working on an amapiano song with DJ Sparks that he hopes to release before the festive season.

“The song titled Kumnandi Ukuthandwa Nguwe is a dedication to my wife. Most of my songs are inspired by what happens in my life. It feels good to receive the same energy from your partner and I’m hoping people in such similar circumstances will relate to the upcoming song,” Lish said. — @SeehYvonne
