Biti fights in Katsimberis’s corner

Politician Tendai Biti, while presenting his defence on assault charges, has introduced what he has described as an illegal action by the City of Harare in demolishing a showroom built by George Katsimberis without an approved plan.

The lawyer is facing charges of verbally assaulting and threatening businesswoman and investor Mrs Tatiana Aleshina at the Harare Magistrates Court in 2020.

In the latest stage of his defence, Biti is blaming the City of Harare for demolishing the showroom, saying they had no court order.

As with his previous applications for referral of this matter to the Constitutional Court Biti again blamed prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutor General Mr Michael Reza of being biased. The lawyer went on to list all matters involving Katsimberis which are currently before the courts.

On Tuesday Biti complained about Zanu PF, The Herald and Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana, claiming they have infringed his constitutional rights since the day he was arrested.

Harare magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro adjourned the trial to November 30 for continuation.

The trial is almost reaching its fourth year with one postponement after the other to deal with applications by Biti and his lawyer.
