BIYA and Friends Academy yesterday presented Christmas goodies to Entembeni Old People’s Home in Luveve suburb.
A brainchild of former Highlanders and national team captain Thulani ‘Biya’ Ncube, the Academy’s acting chairperson Mandla Moyo said the former defence maestro has never forgotten his roots, even though he was now based in the United States of America.
“We are here as Biya and Friends, whose principal is Thulani Biya Ncube, who together with his friends organised themselves and came up with these goodies.
“Biya grew up here and he is still proud of you as his parents. Every year he remembers to give some Christmas cheer to his people back home,” said Moyo.
Speaking on behalf of the Entembeni Old People’s Home, administrator Naomi Khumalo, said they felt humbled by the gesture from the home’s all weather friends.
“You always remember us every year. To us you are our all weather friends. Continue to remember us and we are so happy that you have again decided to give us a very memorable Christmas,” said Khumalo.
There was a touching moment when one of the senior citizens resident at the home interrupted a speech by Moyo and said:
“UBiya okhuluma ngaye ngulo owayedlalela iHighlanders, hawu bantu inkosi ayibelaye.”
The event was also attended by members of the Biya and Friends Academy executive committee.
