ZRP Support Unit outfit Black Boots ran riot, thumping Mpumalanga 4-0 in a match played at the weekend.
Black Boots were on song as Stanely Nkala and Leeroy Ndlovu scored a brace each, as the police outfit kept up with the leading pack in the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League.
Coach Kudzai Mutuda said it is a move in the right direction as they are still trying to regain last season’s form.
The gaffer who led the police outfit to a runners-up finish last season said they are not getting carried away with the five-star performance against Mpumalanga.
“It was a fantastic match against Mpumalanga, the boys did well and I am happy. That’s in the past now because we have a mountain to climb ahead as we are set to travel to Tsholotsho for the next game,” said Mutuda.
The Support Unit side recruited a strong side in the off-season with players like Nkala, Ndlovu, Simon Njeleza and Tendai Ndlovu coming on board to bolster it.
In other matches, high-flying Plumtree Chiefs were held to a goalless draw on the road by ZPC Hwange.
Tsholotsho capitalised on Chiefs’ slip up with a 3-0 win over Portland Cement to reduce the gap to three points with two games in hand.
Ntabazinduna kept their title hopes alive with a 2-0 win over struggling Old Nic Mine who are yet to win a game or collect a point.
In the mid-week games set for tomorrow, Ntabazinduna will lock horns with New West City at Luveve Stadium while Old Nic Mine welcome buoyant Tsholotsho.
Army outfit Elephant FC will travel to Hwange to face wounded Mpumalanga.
