Top South Africa DJ and producer, Black Coffee will be celebrating his 10 years in the music industry with fans in Bulawayo when he performs at Hartsfield Tshisa Nyama later this month.

In what will be an early Christmas present, Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, will introduce fans to his latest offering, ‘We dance together’ which features Nakhane Toure on December 21.

The show which has been dubbed: ‘We dance together’ will feature performances by Bulawayo DJs Nospa, Slimza, Liz and Crazy Black.

Show organiser, Mduduzi Mdlongwa of 3D Events said preparations were going on well.

“We’re working on clearing Black Coffee with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Zimra. We’ve paid him and are just waiting for the clearance,” said Mdlongwa.

He said the Superman hit-maker would tour various studios in the city as well as meet artistes.

“Black Coffee has agreed to tour music studios in Bulawayo to have an appreciation of the music industry here.”

Ordinary tickets have been pegged at $10 and $50 for VIP.

The well travelled Black Coffee started producing music while still in high school, but it was when he studied music at Natal Technikon where things became more serious. He and two friends turned their backs on the books and formed ‘Shana’. The group – meaning ‘simply hot and naturally’ – went on to release four albums. In 2001 Black Coffee landed a residency at Voodoo Lounge nightclub, a gig that got him set for the road to stardom, but it was really in 2003, when he was chosen as one of two South African participants in the Red Bull Music Academy that Black Coffee became a brand in the South African DJ scene.

He launched his Soulstic Music stable in 2005 the same year he released his debut solo album Black Coffee and produced rework of Hugh Masekela’s ‘Stimela’. In 2009 he released his third studio album ‘Home Brewed’ and now he is celebrating a decade in the music industry.
