A second accident near the same spot later in the day claimed one life, while another accident killed a passenger yesterday morning when a commuter omnibus rammed into a tree in Arcadia.
National police spokesperson CommThree people were killed while others were injured, some seriously, in three separate accidents in Harare yesterday.issioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accidents last night.
The Mabvuku turn-off has become a black spot, claiming many lives.
A number of people have called for speed humps towards the turn-off to force motorists to reduce speed and reduce the chances of accidents.
“While we congratulate the Government for repairing the road, we now call for the construction of speed humps to make sure lives are saved on the roads,” said Mr Tatenda Nyereyegona.
In the Mabvuku accident that occurred in the morning, The Herald was told that the driver of the Mercedes Benz was speeding, resulting in him losing control and ramming into an oncoming vehicle.
In the Arcadia accident, an eyewitness, Mr Tapiwa Muchuni, said: “I was at the shops and immediately I saw the kombi veering off its lane and ramming into a tree.
“I don’t really know what caused him to veer off the road, but given the high speed he was travelling at, we thank God that we have a few injuries.”
Police have repeatedly called upon drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads to save lives.
