BLACK MAMBAS LOSING GRIP

Sports Reporter

BLACK Mambas’ long reign at the top of the Northern Region Division One league is now under serious threat from team-of-the-moment Chegutu Pirates with two matches remaining.

The lead at the top is now down to just two points and the title might as well be decided at Pfupajena next Saturday as Chegutu Pirates host Black Mambas in a decider. Chegutu Pirates must win the match to take over as leaders while Black Mambas need three points to earn a ticket back into the Premier League with one match remaining.

Harare City are no longer relevant in this two-horse race for promotion after fizzling out and now trail by eight points with only six available. Black Mambas’ collapse has been alarming. Only two weeks ago, they led Chegutu Pirates by seven points and from the next available six points the policemen only managed one point while the Mashonaland West heavyweights collected all six at stake.

On Saturday, Black Mambas were held to a goalless draw by Lloyd Mutasa’s MWOS at Morris Depot while Chegutu Pirates won 2-1 at Omnia.
