Black Rhinos Queens, Herentals in top of the table clash

Tadious Manyepo Sports Reporter

HERENTALS Queens captain Loveness Mukura says the Students are geared up for the tough task against Women’s Super League table-toppers Black Rhinos Queens at One Commando this afternoon.

The high-stakes showdown kicks off at 1pm.

It’s the peak of the weekend given the atmosphere that normally characterise ties between these two teams.

That they are meeting when Black Rhinos are topping the standings followed by the school girls only adds to the excitement.

The army side are leading the race with 18 points having won all their opening six matches while Herentals Queens are on 15 points from five games with their aborted fixture against Borrow Jets still outstanding.

The reigning champions will overtake their hosts should they manage to beat last season’s runners-up in today’s match.

But that is easier said than done.

Mukura knows Black Rhinos Queens are one of the toughest if not the toughest team to face in this division.

“Honestly, we know that we are trooping into a very difficult battle ground against a very tough opponent in Black Rhinos Queens. This is a team that has dominated the women’s football panorama for about a decade before we managed to tame them last season,” said Mukura.

“Obviously they will come at us strongly. They will seek to stop us, and they will know they will have an advantage. But we are not going to allow them. We have a very impressive group of youngsters who know exactly what’s required of them.

“Of course, Black Rhinos are very rich in terms of experience, but we have a fusion of experience and energy on our side. It’s going to be a very tough match but at the end of the day, we should be able to come out with a positive result”.

Although these are early days, this fixture normally carries a huge bearing at the end of the marathon given that the two clubs usually find it easy to beat all the other teams in the league.

Boosting the likes of polished stars like Natasha Mabungu, Shyline Dambamuromo, Maud Mafuruse, Talent Mukwanda, Yeukai Chipatiko and goalkeeper Lindiwe Magwede, Herentals Queens will be expecting to pick a good result over the soldiers.

But the army team will look for inspiration from veterans like Talent Mandaza, Felistas Muzongondi and Lynette Mutokuto among others.
