ZIMBABWE got a taste of their own medicine yesterday when the Under-18 side suffered the biggest defeat at the Craven Week rugby festival at the GWK Park yesterday.
After watching bitter rivals Namibia go down 53-3 to Griquas on Wednesday, Zimbabwe put up an equally bad showing yesterday at the week-long festival.
They had no answer to each of the points Limpopo put on the board – save for once.
It was a case of poor defence, agility and support at the point of contact which lacked for Zimbabwe, there were a lot of turn over balls and missed tackles.
Of course, as per the event rules and regulation, all the players on the bench in the first game have first preference going into the second match, with each player expected to play at least a full game.
And that is why coach Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa had to put in seven new faces into this game.
But it seemed the replacements and team rotation was not good enough to match their Tuesday display when the Young Sables registered their biggest win at the festival.
Limpopo ran in 12 tries, compared to Zimbabwe’s face-saver, which came from captain Garath Miekle and was converted by fullback James Forrester five minutes before time.
Among the Limpopo try-scorers were Madala Ndinisa, Nhlanhla Mlondobozi, Viljeon Dreyer and Anton du Toit who all scored a brace each while Roy Auret, flyhalf Jacobus Marais, Juan Smit, and Harold Vorster weighed in with a try each.
Marais also kicked through nine conversions and a penalty to come out of the game as the top scorer with a total of 27 points.
