PRIZEMONEY for the blockbuster clash between traditional rivals Highlanders and Dynamos in the Bob90 Super Cup final set for Rufaro Stadium on Sunday has not yet been finalised with the organisers expecting to seal everything by today.
Last year, winners Dynamos got $110,000 with losing finalists Highlanders getting $75,000.
However, preparations are well on course with both teams confirming their participation in what would surely be a preview of what soccer fans must expect this season.
“At the moment, we have not finalised on the prizemoney but it’s just a few loose ends to be tied. Call me probably tomorrow (today) I might have something along those lines,” said the organising committee’s media liaison officer and veteran broadcaster Charles “CNN” Mabika.
The final was initially set for February 23 but had to be put on ice as the main celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s 90th birthday were held at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on the same day. Holding the final on that day would have been a huge counter-attraction to the Marondera event.
To book a place in the fourth final of the tournament, Bulawayo giants Highlanders knocked out Harare City 2-1 in the semi-final played at Barbourfields Stadium on February 16. The Harare side scored first through former Bosso and Triangle FC striker Misheck Mburayi, five minutes before the breather.
Amahlolanyama hit back moments later through South Africa bound Peter Rio Moyo before another Super Diski bound player Milton Ncube sealed victory for Highlanders in the 73rd minute.
In its inaugural year, the tournament was won by Caps United with then new boys FC Platinum lifting it the following year after beating coal miners Hwange.
Last season, Dynamos and Highlanders fought over a two legged final, the first one played at Barbourfields Stadium that saw Dynamos winning 2-1 through goals from skipper Tawanda Muparati and Patrick Khumbula while Beavan Chikaka scored for Bosso.
A week later the two giants clashed in the second leg in Harare and Bosso were pummelled into submission as DeMbare went on a rampage and drilled four goals without reply past a hapless and totally out of form Ariel Sibanda.
Dynamos got their goals from Khumbula, who hit a brace, Partson Jaure and an own goal from Simon Munawa.
