Bodi charged with match-fixing

Cape Town — Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that former Proteas, Dolphins, Titans and Lions cricketer, Gulam Bodi, is the intermediary who has been charged under its Anti-Corruption Code.

Bodi has been charged with contriving to fix, or otherwise improperly influence aspects of the 2015 Ram Slam T20.

“Following our investigations and due process, we’ve reached a point where we can confirm that Bodi is the intermediary who was charged by CSA in early December 2015 under the CSA Anti-Corruption Code,” said CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

“Bodi is presently cooperating with the CSA Anti-Corruption officials. We now await his response to the charges and the matter will take its course in accordance with the process outlined in the Code.”

Pending receipt of his response, Bodi has been provisionally suspended under Article 4.7.1 of the Code.

The provisional suspension means that Bodi may not be involved in any capacity in any match or any other kind of function, event or activity (other than authorised anti-corruption education or rehabilitation programmes) that is authorised, organised, sanctioned, recognised or supported in any way by CSA, the ICC, a National Cricket Federation or any member of a National Cricket Federation.

Meanwhile, South Africa had threatened to take the game away from England, but lost Hashim Amla and Dean Elgar before tea on the opening day of the third Test at the Wanderers.

The Proteas will start the third session on 152/3 with AB de Villiers (29*) and Faf du Plessis (6*) at the wicket.

Amla and Elgar started well after lunch and were threatening to go big as the sun started to show itself in Johannesburg.

Ben Stokes was adamant he had Amla out LBW for 26 in the 34th over when his huge appeal was turned down by umpire Aleem Dar.

Stokes’ reaction was such that captain Alastair Cook had little choice but to review, but Amla was safe as an “umpire’s call” showed not enough of the ball clipping the bails.

Elgar was then out in the first over after the drinks break when he looked to cut off-spinner Moeen Ali but found an outside edge to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.

The Proteas opener had done all the hard work, dealing with a potentially lethal spell from Steven Finn, but he could not cash in as he was back in the hut for 46.— Sport24.
