An 18-year-old youth from Mhangura has appeared before the Harare Magistrate’s Court on charges of impersonating a peace officer.

Marlon Kawanga was remanded in custody to Tuesday for plea recording. The State, led by prosecutor Polite Chikiwa, alleged that Kawanga fraudulently claimed to be a member of the Air Force of Zimbabwe during a police interview on January 23, 2026.

Kawanga, who was arrested on separate fraud charges, reportedly told police he held the rank of Air Defence Operation Officer and that his service number was AFZ/ADO/001.

He also claimed he was about to be transferred to Beijing, China, as part of a mission to strengthen bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China.

A subsequent search uncovered forged Air Force of Zimbabwe documents outlining a fabricated employment history.

Investigations revealed that Kawanga has no affiliation with the Air Force of Zimbabwe.
